Sandra is a 5th generation meat producer

Meet one of Tromsø's most passionate meat producers.

We meet Sandra Mydland at the premises of the cornerstone company Mydland, which has been producing quality meat in Tromsø for over 100 years.

She is a fifth-generation meat producer and currently works as the company's operations manager.

- I'm a production planner and have everything to do with quality.

Since its humble beginnings in Skippergata 15, the company has gone from strength to strength. Today, they have 40 employees and are therefore a relatively large company by Tromsø standards. Today, Mydland is 103 years old.

- The business has been passed down through the family all the way with steady and good growth. This bodes well for the future," says Sandra.

Mydland is uncompromising on quality.

She is grateful to be able to pass on the proud traditions of meat production.

-"It's a huge responsibility. You can feel it. Mydland is a strong brand in Northern Norway and Tromsø. We want to carry on the history and traditions by maintaining its qualities.

- What's the secret to surviving for so long?

- The secret is to be dedicated and loyal and to maintain quality. It's about every part of the work you do. Awareness of doing it properly - or we don't do it at all," Sandra replies.

She makes no secret of the fact that there is strong competition from national chains.

It's difficult. There's always pressure from big chains. We are small in a big picture, but at the same time we are a relatively large company in Northern Norway. We can't compromise on our quality and values. We're uncompromising in that respect, and that's what has enabled us to survive for 100 years.

She says it's great that people from all over the world ask for their products when they visit Tromsø.

- That's what drives us forward. It's fantastic to see. It feels like we're on the right track. The fact that tourists come to visit and want the local character is something we appreciate. At the same time, we're pleased that so many locals also value local food. It makes us proud," says Sandra Mydland.
